I grew up knowing that I had Indigenous roots—but it was never clear what those roots were. My grandparents didn't like to dwell on that part of our family history, and so much of it remained unspoken.
It wasn't until later in life that I began piecing together the story. Through conversations with family members, historical records, and a growing curiosity about where I came from, I discovered my Métis heritage.
This journey of discovery has been deeply personal. It's not about claiming a label for business purposes or ticking a box—it's about understanding who I am and where my family comes from.
Big Tree Electrical is a Métis-owned business, but that designation carries meaning far beyond paperwork. It represents a connection to a rich cultural history, a commitment to community, and a desire to honor the resilience of those who came before us.
